Mateo G. Torres is a Colombian-Canadian multidisciplinary artist, educator and arts organizer with a particular interest in the human body and the way it moves. A professionally trained dancer, Mateo has choreographed, produced and collaborated in many original works under the name GUETCHA GUARITCHA, and has performed nationally and internationally for live theatre, film and multidisciplinary projects. As an educator, Mateo has taught at universities, colleges, studios, festivals, gyms and boutique fitness studios around the world. As an arts organizer, Mateo has supported the production of works by many artists and companies. Most recently, Mateo has been leading the development and facilitation of the Stratford Festival EDI Pre Rehearsal Orientations. Mateo’s work is highly influenced by his ancestral roots; politically charged and rooted in our collective present experience. Mateo is committed to cultivating welcoming and responsive spaces that consider people’s needs and foster active self-reflection and care, and to create work relevant to our historical and geographical context, focused on community building based on equity.
